In 1959, 12 year old Roger Kornberg was awaken. He was told that his father had just been awarded the Nobel Prize for physiology or medicine. On Wednesday, Roger Kornberg woke his father to tell him he had just been awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
Arthur Kornberg and son, Roger Kornberg are a rare father- and- son pair of winners. In the 105 years that the prize has been given the pair represents the seventh time a parent and child have both won the prize. Although the Kornbergs won in different categories, their work was similar. This family’s potential has been passed down through a generation. I’m grateful I was still around when it happened, Arthur Kornberg said.
Right now, the question remains. Will the Kornbergs scientific tradtion be passed on to another generation?
