Wal-Mart is going green with former Vice-President Al Gore. Al Gore’s new movie, An Inconvenient Truth, about global warming has persuaded Wal-Mart to attempt to save the environment. The corporate giant is going green.
Wal-Mart has set many goals that will help to save the environment. Wal-Mart, the largest private user of electricity, said that they would increase the energy efficiency of it’s truck fleet- the nation’s largest- by 25% in the next 3 years and double the efficiency by the next decade. They also said they would design a new prototype store that would be more eco-friendly. They will also reduce solid waste from US stores by 25% in the next 3 years. Jon Coifman, a spokesman for the National Resources Defense Council, said, As the largest economic presence on the plane, they have an enormous impact on the planet.
This could really benefit the world, but even though there are a large number of Wal-Marts around the world, I don’t think this will decrease global warming by a lot. It’s a good start though. Good job, Al Gore, you got something going.
